RIDES FOR
RELIEF
Teach your children well!
And do some good for the larger community!
My children are so lucky! They have a warm, cozy home, loving parents who provide them everything they need and then some.
In short, they are incredibly privileged. Just as your children are!We feel that it is important for kids, even from an early age, to understand that they are lucky and learn to think about and feel compassion for others who are less fortunate. We know you feel that way too. Its important for them to understand that they have the power to help others. Sometimes kids, and even adults, can't see how they can play a role or contribute in any meaningful way.
That's why we're committed to working with our clients to help raise funds for those less fortunate than us. Not only does it provide an opportunity to help others, but it provides an opportunity to TEACH children about important values. Not only is it an opportunity for you to teach your own children about giving and compassion, but for every guest who receives an invitation to your child's party another opportunity for teaching is created!
By working together, we can collect little bits of money, educate LOTS of children, and create a pool of funds that can really have an impact on the lives of others.
Rather than asking our children to request donations in lieu of gifts as we have seen done in the past, we simply put a note into the invitations advising parents that our child is collecting for a particular charity and requesting that the guests bring pocket change or any money they might like to donate. Kids, especially the little guys, love the sound of coins dropping into a bucket full of other coins and get a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that their little bit of money will be going to help someone else. Asking a child to give up all their presents to collect money for others just really isn't something that young children in our society seem to be able to grasp or want to do, so this compromise method seems to work the best.
Parents of guests have an opportunity to explain to their children why your child is collecting money and have a chance to help their child decide how much to give. They can help them find change from under the car seat, between the seat cushions or help them decide to donate a portion of their allowance even. However much they decide to give and whatever the source of the funds, the opportunity to teach their children about giving and compassion has been created.
Using this method, we've raised quite a bit of money over the years. And given that we do hundreds of parties per year, we'd like to invite you to work with us. All you have to do is include a note in the invitation (click here for a sample letter) and provide a collection bucket or can --- something brightly decorated and perhaps labeled with your child's name indicating the good deed your child is undertaking will be wonderful and will help make your child proud of their efforts. When your child greets the guests he or she can show the guests where the donation can or bucket is located.
There is no need to give us the bucket. At the end of the party, or even a few days after you recover from the party, you can simply count up the money with your child (another great learning opportunity --- you can practice math skills!) and then send us a check for the amount you raised. We will add it to the monies received from other parties and our own contributions and will make sure it gets donated!
There couldn't be a simpler way to get kids started learning about the idea of community and giving!
It's an opportunity to do good, feel good, and teach children about important values that they can, and should, carry through life. Please participate --- we know it will be good for all involved!
Our goal for 2006 will be to raise at least $2500.00. I hope that you'll help us meet that goal! If you have questions about how to get started, please give us a call in the office and we'll be happy to talk with you about it!
Thank you in advance for your participation.
